Hope Through Language: A Mother’s Letter From Lebanon

At NaTakallam, language is more than just words – it’s a bridge to human connection and resilience. Today, we share the inspiring story of Abir, one of our Lebanese Language Partners, who reflects on motherhood, conflict, and the power of hope.

War Through a Mother’s Eyes

Abir first experienced war as a teenager during the 2006 conflict in Lebanon. Back then, her parents shielded her from the worst realities – she remembers family gatherings, the distant sounds of explosions, and a strange sense of safety in the presence of loved ones.

Now, as a mother of two, the experience is very different. Every day, she carries the weight of protecting her children – physically and emotionally. From answering their questions gently, to keeping their spirits high through activities, she strives to be their pillar of strength despite the uncertainty around them.

Her guiding words?
“Bukra Ahla” (بكرا أحلى) – Tomorrow will be better.

Finding Beauty in Hope

Lebanon today faces overcrowded neighborhoods, schools turned into shelters, and children losing education and friendships. Yet Abir insists the true beauty of Lebanon lies in its people – communities that come together in times of crisis, offering comfort and solidarity.

For her, Lebanon is like a mother: imperfect, yet deeply loved and impossible to leave behind. “Bukra Ahla” is not just for her children, but for Lebanon itself – a promise of a future worth fighting for.

Purpose Through Teaching

For Abir, teaching with NaTakallam is more than a job – it’s a source of strength and purpose. The friendships she has built with colleagues and students remind her that she is not alone. Each lesson is a chance to share her language, culture, and story, while also supporting her family during uncertain times.

“All we have is hope. By teaching, I hold onto that hope and pass it forward.” – Abir

When you learn Arabic with tutors like Abir, you gain more than a language skill – you help families like hers thrive in the face of hardship.
